*IMPORTANT NOTE*
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Versions 1.00 & 1.01 Wide Beta of Galaxy 5, contained a problem
with returning from an Xport. The game would exit with a "Com Port
Not Enabled" error. As of v1.02 Wide Beta, this problem has been
fixed. The point being: If you are running a version earlier than
1.02, you probably shouldn't install this Xport, as it will run
fine until the caller exits the Xport! :(
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If you are running a version earlier than v1.09 Wide Beta, then
the "Sleep In The Alley" option will not be available. Take note
that The Inscribers Guild v1.2 was released -before- Galaxy 5
v1.09 was released. This is because of a nasty bug in v1.1! ;) So
after you upgrade to v1.09, the sleep in alley option will be
available to players.

Introduction 1
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The Inscribers Guild is an Xport for the door game Galaxy 5. I
created this Xport for all Galaxy 5 SysOps to install to their
game for the hell of it! ;> This Xport is freeware.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If you do not yet have Galaxy 5 installed on your system, why not?
:) You can get it by calling The Last Call BBS! (313) 295-6284, or
via Fido requesting the magic name G5 from 1:2410/903. To snag it
while yer on the net, go here,

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The Inscribers Guild gives your players the opportunity to name
their weapon, armour, and space crafts. The cost is set by you in
the SCRIBES.CFG file, and whether or not you allow players to name
their weapon, armour, and/or space crafts, is also set by you in
the config file (the config file is set up during installation,
and can be edited at any time to make changes). Players go into
the guild, and they can view their stats, visit the ATM, or go up
to the owner and have something personalized. The cost that you
set in the config file, is multiplied by the players rank in order
to make the price a little fair, and that price applies to all
items that players can have personalized.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The Inscribers Guild also makes use of your BADWORDS.DAT file if
it exists in your DATA subdirectory. It works just like the filter
in Galaxy 5. If BADWORDS.DAT does not exist, then callers can name
their items using "bad words." If BADWORDS.DAT does exist, then
any words callers use in their items that matches a "bad word"
listed in the BADWORDS.DAT file, will be filtered using the
appropriate replacement as listed in BADWORDS.DAT.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If you are running v1.09 Wide Beta or later, then callers will
also have the opportunity to sleep in the alley.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Installation 2
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
To install The Inscribers Guild, simply create a directory for the
Xport, and unzip the SCRIBESxx.ZIP archive to that directory (or
you can unzip the archive to a temporary directory). Run the
INSTALL program, and choose the install option. Use your arrow
keys to move the arrow and make your selection, or type the letter
of the choice you wish to make.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
First you will be asked to show INSTALL where your home Galaxy 5
directory is located. Type in the full path including the drive
letter. INSTALL will automatically fill in the second directory,
"Path to The Inscribers Guild." You can leave it as is, or change
it if you wish. When finished, choose (D)one.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
After showing INSTALL where your directories are, you will be
shown the configuration options which you can set to your likings,
or leave as is. When finished, choose (D)one, and the game will
copy the files to the proper directory (if necessary), and write
the needed Xport info to your XPORTS.DAT file located in your home
Galaxy 5 directory (if it does not exist, INSTALL will create it).
Thats it! Yer done!
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Upgrading 3
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
To upgrade The Inscribers Guild, unzip the SCRIBE??.ZIP archive to
a temporary directory, and move the *.EXE files over to your
current Inscribers Guild directory. No need to rerun the Install
program, but it will not hurt if you "re-install" over your
existing copy of The Inscribers Guild.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Configuration 4
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If in the future you wish to change the cost of getting something
inscribed, or wish to change the settings on the items allowed to
be inscribed, just load the SCRIBES.CFG file in your editor, and
make the changes. The only requirements of the file, is that there
should be NO spaces in any line. Here is what the config file
looks like,
PRICE=1000
ARMOUR=YES
WEAPON=YES
SHIP=YES
Change only the setting after the equals (=) sign for the
setting(s) you wish to change. To disallow one or more of the
items, put NO after the = sign for the particular item(s) you wish
to disallow inscribing of.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Uninstalling 5
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
To "Uninstall" The Inscribers Guild, simply run the INSTALL
program, and choose the (U)ninstall option from the main menu. You
will be asked if you are sure, and then the Xport will be
uninstalled if you choose to continue. Take note that this will
not delete any files, only remove the lines related to the Xport
from the XPORTS.DAT file so that it will no longer be available to
callers.
